The Rise of Chinese Science 中国科技的崛起
 

When I first went to China in 1982 to market scientific, technical and medical books and journals and databases for U.S. publishers, Chinese science was weak and unknown. China graduated only 19 Ph.D.s each year. The Science Citation Index and Current Contents essentially ignored China.

 

Now, as you can see from the two figures below, China is the source of nearly 10% of the scientific and scholarly papers published in the world. China now graduates as many Ph.D.s each year as the United States. The rise of Chinese science is a trend that will continue to add to the growth and development of global science and technology. 

 

早在1980年初,我第一次从美国访问中国的时候,中国的科技在世界的舞台上寂寂无名。但是,经过开放后30年的翻天覆地的改变,中国的科技已经受到美国和西方国家的重视。我在美国的出版社客户,从过去找我推销图书到中国转变到今天要我去中国寻找它们要出版的科技成果。请看以下图片。
